Chris Pena of Carteret HS and David Welch of Perth Amboy HS each received a $500 scholarship presented by URSB’s president, Ken Totten. The scholarships were awarded at halftime, followed by MVP trophies also presented by URSB to Carteret’s Dwayne Sharpe and Perth Amboy’s Tyler Jack after the game.

Sharpe rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns, leading Carteret to a 41-6 victory. Perth Amboy’s only score came on the last play of the game as Tahj O’Neal connected with Tyler Jack for a 68-yard Hail Mary touchdown. In a series dating back to 1927, Perth Amboy holds the all-time lead at 46-43-2. Carteret, however, has won five of the last six contests.

2017 marked the third consecutive year URSB has participated in the holiday rivalry game. As Carteret’s hometown bank, we are proud to support our local students and institutions. We have made a long-term commitment to continue our annual Thanksgiving Day scholarships, and are already looking forward to next year’s game.
